Home from home

We have been unbelievably fortunate, in the face of rather stressful logistics, to be looked after by some amazingly kind people in Bristol. Liz, a relative of a friend happened to have a friend Clive with a house we could “look after” mid-sale. The house is set in leafy suburbs 15-minute drive from the hospital.

Once we had met Liz and her husband Andy, and spoken to Clive on the phone, we realized that we had happened across some of the most generous and trusting people it is possible to meet. Thank you all so much.

Looking up
Hot weather good for the water lilies
Lovely garden
Lovely view
Cake and bread from Liz and Andy

From Nick’s health perspective: the objective is to reduce the dose of blood pressure drug (some vaso-constrictor?) to zero so he can move out of ICU. Having a fairly random heart beat and already low BP doesn’t really help this. We have a virtual meeting tomorrow with the spinal injuries rehabilitation team at Salisbury who will coordinate the move to Pinderfields or James Cook. Fingers crossed.

On the hottest day ever recorded in England Nick must have been unique in being too cold and wanting to be covered with a sheet. The ICU has some serious air conditioning!

  3. Hi Nick,
hope improvements continue and that your comfort levels improve daily.

I have just checked my logbook and see that my first Northerns was 1979…based as I was at Booker the CFI was Chris Rollings. I asked him for a briefing for my first comp. He said that to win any regionals simply complete the task every day. However, to win the Northerns….if there is any wave around “just follow Nick Gaunt”.

Funny how some snippets stick in the brain.

A dull breezy day up here (near Goole). I am tasked with replacing Barry Lumb’s septic tank pump today. Barry reckons his knees preclude him from such activities…hmm😂

    Best wishes Nick
