Prism Glasses

Perfect for navel gazing

Southmead is doing incredibly well for me, the staff are Universally competent and nice. Okay right. I have had major operation for a compressed vertebra on the first night of my arrival, which was a four-hour op where they put lots of screws in. And that means that I’ve been in a sort of splint situation where I’ve got to be kept straight for some five weeks.

Hopefully, the paralysis, which I have, which is pretty well from below my sternum, will slowly improve over a period of time. Automatic reflexes do work on my legs already. So there is some nervous system there.

So we’re using voice to text now, but the amazing prismatic glasses which Jill has got me will, I hope, enable me to be able to type things on a phone or a laptop. Who knows how long that will take, that’s got to be worked on. It won’t happen overnight!

What will happen overnight is that I will again be turned over every four hours by a team of people who will scrub me from top to bottom, bit undignified, but anyway, it keeps me comfortable. And life actually looks pretty optimistic but it’ll take quite a while to get there. We should be back up north, who knows… certainly within a month, we’ll wait and see!

  1. Hi Nick just checking this site out for others asa couple of guys have posted but seen nothing so I will report back . Heading to Yorks Thursday and will be there for a week or so

    • Chris, working fine. Dad still intending to reply to Phil and Andrew but lots of random interruptions such as nurses, crossword clues, meals to eat etc.

I’ve seen a couple of bot posts so might have to introduce some human checking steps!

  2. Hey Uncle Nick
I love the new magic specs 👓 Just to say, we are all thinking about you, wishing you well and admiring that amazing optimism of yours. It’s the way forwards 😊
We have all been sent home from school this afternoon, as the classrooms turned into saunas and we were melting. I shall head over to the air conditioned gym later and get some training in. I’m doing the Yorkshire 3 peaks on Saturday 13th August! (Walking it not running!)
Bye for now and keep up the good work 🥰👍😎🥸 Tamsin, David and Amber and Arlo xxxx

  3. Dear Uncle Nick, we are thinking of you constantly. Sending you good vipes and posive thoughts. We know, you are in the best compeny one can get; positive, smart, funny, and loving people…best for healing. Like Tamsin said, we glad to see you thinking positive and fighting to get better. Thank you for sharing these times with us. Lov from Nic to Nick💪❤️

    • (P. s. : Sorry for the writing mistakes… Typing on the phone without glasses…. Still not used to getting old.)

  4. Dear Uncle Nicky,

I am really sorry that we didn’t see you when we visited last week. The hospital is amazing and you are in the best of hands. Julie and I are staying with Greta at the moment and hope to be able to call in when we go back to Devon next week.

You must be disappointed not to have finished Enterprise as it was an epic week. I was following you on the tracker and I must admit was a little concerned when you didn’t come back!

The prismatic glasses are very clever and we look forward to hearing more of your progress.

    All our love,

    Nicky, Julie and Greta

    • Thanks. It’s a planned stoppage as gliding seems to have become a spectator sport… If only that was true!

Keep in touch about your plans for returning to Devon.

  5. Hi Nick,
I’m not sure if this comm. will reach you…I miss a good First Officer with all things tech.! It is a testament to the guys at Boeing that their I.T. is the only tech. which capably held my hand as I walked along the information highway with my L plates and was easy to use…just as well.

Blimey Nick, it is soooooo good to “see” you smiling and positive. Obviously I am praying for you, in my own way, and now that Graham Evison has demonstrated how to use this system(blog,,,?) I shall be checking in each day.

I still await the DG800c but hope to fly it very soon.

My very best wishes to you and your family,

    Steve
